Gordon Elliott: My thoughts on Don Cossack at Punchestown on Sunday

Don Cossack returns at Punchestown on Sunday

With the weather decimating the Irish racing this weekend, we get the views of Gordon Elliot on his sole runner, the exciting Don Cossack, at Punchestown on Sunday...

"I still think he's a very good horse, I'm not saying he would've beaten the Willie Mullins horse at Navan that day if he was 110%, but he's definitely a better horse than the way he ran."

Don Cossack

He was quite sore after falling at Navan, behind Pont Alexandre the last day. However he's in good form at the moment and he has been working well again since then. I still think he's a very good horse, I'm not saying he would've beaten the Willie Mullins horse at Navan that day if he was 110%, but he's definitely a better horse than the way he ran.

It's a hot race on Sunday and is worthy of its Grade 2 status, with Noel Meade's Ned Buntline, and the re-opposing Willie Mullins trained Mozoltov, rating the main dangers. In regards to where he goes after Sunday, I've been asked about Cheltenham quite a few times, however firstly we are hoping he will run a good race, and how he runs will let us know where he goes next and we can make more solid plans for the rest of the season after Sunday's race.
