Gordon Elliott: Eclair to be the cream of my eight Fairyhouse runners
Betfair Ambassador Gordon Elliott has eight runners at Fairyhouse on Sunday where he believes his best chance of a winner is in the Grade 2 hurdle at 14:55...
"The handicapper has rated him 135 and he's going to have to improve a bit on that if he is to win at Grade 2 level but I'm expecting a good run."
Gordon Elliott on Eclair De Beaufeu
Hoping from improvement from hurdles debut
14:20 - Braid Blue
He won his first two starts in bumpers last summer and I'm hoping he will have another good summer as a hurdler. He struggled on his first run over hurdles but did run much better at Ayr last time when he was fifth to Galvin. That was an encouraging run and on what he showed there he should be able to win a maiden so I'm hoping he will be able to give a good account of himself but this does look quite a competitive race.
Not expecting a huge amount on debut
14:20 - Camden Village
He's a grand horse who has been going fine at home and he's showing us that he's ready to start out for the season. Unlike a lot of our horses he hasn't had a run in a point-to-point so I'd expect that he will be a little raw for this first run. He jumps well and seems a nice, straight forward type so I'm looking forward to getting him started. This run will decide whether we stick to hurdles or go back for a bumper in the coming weeks.
Cheltenham run offers a lot of encouragement
14:55 - Eclair De Beaufeu
He's stepping up from handicaps to graded level but I would hope that he will be able to give a good account of himself. After winning his maiden hurdle at Limerick over Christmas he has progressed well and I thought that he ran a very good race in the County Hurdle last time only to depart at the last flight. He was just about to be swallowed up by the leaders that day but was still going to run well and the experience that he has picked up in big handicap hurdles on his last two runs will stand to him here. The handicapper has rated him 135 and he's going to have to improve a bit on that if he is to win at Grade 2 level but I'm expecting a good run.
Step forward needed to get involved
15:30 - Final List
He's a grand horse who was able to record a deserved win over hurdles in a maiden at Navan last time. That win came over two miles but I think he will be better over further so this trip will suit him as will the decent ground. However, the form that he has shown over hurdles isn't as strong as what some of the others have shown and he's got to take a step forward if he is to get closely involved.
Improvement needed but a should run well
15:30 - Milan Native
He's a lovely, big horse who is going to make a better chaser than a hurdler but I'm keen to give him a run or two at graded level before the end of the season. Since winning his maiden hurdle at Navan he has run well in two decent novice hurdles and I think he can improve further as he is learning all the time. He is going to have to improve to make his presence felt here but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him run well.
Tough ask in a competitive race
16:00 - Duke's Girl
She hasn't been with us all that long but from what I've seen she's a grand, relaxed type and she has settled in well here. She has shown promise in a few maidens and on a couple of her handicap hurdle runs so hopefully she'll be able to make her mark at some stage. This does look a very competitive race so I'd hoping for a solid showing that she will be able to build on in the coming weeks.
Prospects if repeat latest performances
16:35 - Viscount Wilson
He comes here off two good runs in defeat. He was disappointing on his first few runs over hurdles but he then ran well in a handicap at Naas and he followed that up with a second at Wexford last time. Those runs give him prospects but this looks a competitive race and he would prefer softer ground.
Good summer jumping prospect will come on for the run
17:05 - Sassy Yet Classy
This mare shaped up well for us in the autumn when she followed up a good first run at Ballinrobe with a win at the Listowel Festival. She has a good break since Listowel and looks to have done well and strengthened up so hopefully there's more to come from her and I'm hopeful that she will have a good summer hurdling. It would be great if she could pick some black type but this looks a tough enough race and she will come on from what is her first run for 205 days.
Best Chance - Eclair De Beaufeu (14:55)
