Yorkshire Oaks: Timeform's runner-by-runner guide

The Fugue has already won a big race at York

Timeform give their guide to a fascinating renewal of the Yorkshire Oaks...

"The Fugue won the Musidora and Nassau Stakes last year, and unlucky in Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in November. Good third on return this term, and best excused Eclipse effort (scoped badly after)."

Emirates Queen has been an improved performer this term, landing Lancashire Oaks in July (Moment In Time second) before even better form when third in French Group 2 latest. On the up, so not discounted, though more needed.

Moment In Time is a smart performer who improved another chunk when landing a Haydock Group 3 in June. Good second in Lancashire Oaks there last month, but well held in Nassau Stakes last time and up against it here.

The Fugue won the Musidora and Nassau Stakes last year, and unlucky in Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in November. Good third on return this term, and best excused Eclipse effort (scoped badly after).

Wild Coco is a lightly-raced filly who landed both her starts in 2012, the Park Hill at Doncaster latterly. As good as ever when landing Lillie Langtree on return at Goodwood in July and dangerous to dismiss now.

Riposte confirmed the promise of her debut when running out a smooth winner of a Newmarket maiden, and most impressive when landing the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot next time, but failed to build on those efforts in Irish Oaks last time.

Scintillula finished fourth in the Irish Oaks before beating Mars to land Meld Stakes at Leopardstown. She hasn't built on that in two starts since, however, and looks up against it here.

Secret Gesture was most impressive when winning the Lingfield Oaks Trial on return, and found only one to good in Epsom/German Oaks since. This looks tougher, but she may just have a bigger effort in her.

Venus de Milo bettered her easy maiden win with a cosy success in the Naas Oaks Trial next time. Only failed by half a length to land the Irish Oaks, and facile winner of Cork Group 3 last time. Remains progressive.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. The Fugue
2. Venus de Milo
3. Wild Coco

Timeform view: Venus De Milo has done little wrong in her brief career to date and is the most progressive runner in the line-up. However, the classic generation don't look a vintage bunch, and it may be best to side with The Fugue, who has had a break since the Eclipse and can go one better than she managed in this event last year. Wild Coco is another to consider in a cracking renewal.
