The list of winners of the ten furlong, Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes reads like a 'Who's Who' of European racing, making the event one of the centrepieces of the Irish racing calendar and one of the heaviest betting heats of the season.
The odds on any representative trained by Aidan O'Brien will reflect the trainer's fine record in the race. The Ballydoyle maestro has rewarded those with bets on his runners four times in the last seven years, most recently with Oratorio and Dylan Thomas, and the odds will reflect the respect with which he is held by the betting fraternity.
Saeed Bin Suroor has also landed the race four times (from the last 10 runnings) and the odds are heavily stacked in favour of the prize going to one of the two aforementioned racing battalions.
In the last 10 years the Irish Champion Stakes has also been dominated by three jockeys; Michael Kinane winning four, Frankie Dettori also winning four and Keiren Fallon winning the last two renewals . This is a race of very strong statistical trends that ensure serious bets and frenetic betting in an event where it is long odds-on that one of the market principals will prevail.
