One of the major betting races of the National Hunt season, the Grade 3 Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, run in late November at Newbury over three-and-a-quarter miles, has a long and proud history of producing high class winners.

The race is invariably run at a strong pace, all but guaranteeing that the wining form will be solid, and the performances of the leading contenders can have a significant impact on ante-post odds betting list for other major chases later in the season. Sometimes long range betting coups are planned ahead of the race and serious bets can be noted at big odds in the ante-post betting lists some months before the race itself.
