This Grade 3 contest run over two-miles-five-furlongs at Cheltenham's December meeting, is a major betting event seeing the best of the two and three mile handicap chasers crossing swords.
The race has thrown up some very classy winners (normally in single figure odds in the betting market), and last year Exotic Dancer belied odds of 8/1 to land plenty of bets for those that backed him to follow up his win in the Paddy Power Gold Cup over the same course and distance three weeks earlier.
His trainer, Jonjo O'Neill, was landing his second win in the race in seven years following Legal Bid's triumph in 2000, and along with trainer Nicky Henderson (also two wins in the same period), O'Neill is a man that many punters are happy to support at this fixture.
An impressive performance by one of the top weights can often prompt a revision in the ante-post odds betting lists for the season's major handicap chases as well as the Cheltenham Gold Cup, in which Exotic Dancer finished an excellent second earlier this year.
