Philips Hobbs' improving chaser Defi Du Seuil is the early 11/8 favourite for Saturday's Betfair Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown, but is likely to face strong opposition from former winners Un De Sceaux, 7/2, and Politologue 9/2.

A field of eight has been declared for the two mile Grade 1 Chase, a race that has been dominated in recent years by Betfair Ambassador Paul Nicholls, who has won the valuable contest an incredible 10 times since 1999.

Youngster Defi on the up

A winner of a Triumph Hurdle and last season's JLT Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, six-year-old Defi Du Seuil confirmed he is a two-mile chaser on the up when beating Politologue by just over a length in last month's Shloer Chase at Cheltenham, though he will meet that rival on 3lb worse terms on Saturday.

Second favourite, and 2016 Tingle Creek winner, Un De Sceaux will go into the race officially the highest rated chaser of the Octet with a mark of 171, though the Willie Mullins-trained winner of six Grade 1 Chases has fitness to prove and it remains to be seen how much ability he retains just weeks shy of becoming a 12yo.

Should they stand their ground for Saturday's contest the race will feature a clutch of improving chasers with Janika and Dolos, both 6yos, and 7yo Grade 1 winner Sceau Royal going to post along with Ruth Jefferson's stable star Waiting Patiently (8yo).

Money for Politolouge

Betfair Spokesman Barry Orr said, "Defi Du Seuil announced himself as a two mile chaser of immense potential with a nice win from Politologue in the Shloer Chase and he is clear favourite at 11/8 for Saturday's feature race."

"But as a previous winner of the contest and on 3lbs better terms, all the money has been for Politologue, with punters backing him to turn the Shloer form around and land Betfair Ambassador Paul Nicholls an 11th win in the race."
