Dancing Rain holds off Wonder of Wonders

This afternoon's Oaks provided something of a shock result with outsider Dancing Rain making all to land the spoils...

Sent off at a BSP of [29.0] compared to industry odds of 20/1, Dancing Rain was soon sent into a clear lead by Johnny Murtagh, and though she touched an in-running high of [55.0], she never really looked like being reeled in by the runner-up Wonder of Wonders, who hit a low of [1.11], ultimately having three quarters of a length to spare at the finish.

Blue Bunting was sent off the [3.42] favourite, but never looked like getting involved from a less-than-ideal position, and her rider Frankie Dettori was later banned for 10 days after failing to ride the filly out for third, which instead went to Izzi Top.

Dancing Rain's success provided her trainer William Haggas with a second classic success after Shaamit's win in the 1996 Derby, while it was a first Oaks winner for Johnny Murtagh, who partners Native Khan in tomorrow's Derby.
