Barzalona celebrates his Derby success on Pour Moi

Pour Moi gives French trainer Andre Fabre his first ever Epsom Derby success as HM Queen's horse Carlton House manages only third...

Carlton House was sent off favourite on Betfair, but the well-backed Pour Moi (Betfair SP [5.73]), who was giving his young rider Mickael Barzalona a Derby winner from his first ride, came with a storming late run to reel in the Aidan O'Brien-trained Chester Vase winner Treasure Beach (who hit an in-running low of [1.14]) close home. Pour Moi was a first ever Derby winner for Andre Fabre from ten attempts, and the first for France since 1976.

The race wasn't without incident, both Carlton House and Pour Moi forced to come wide, but as the French raider began to find his stride it was clear he was going to get there as Carlton House began to labour (lowest the Queen's runner went was [2.34]).

Jockey Barzalona stood up in the irons to celebrate rather prematurely, but it mattered little as Pour Moi crossed the line with a head to spare from Treasure Beach, with a further three quarters of a length back to Carlton House.
