Donald McCain on Grand National day: The verdict on my Aintree runners
Two runners in the Grand National for Donald as he bids to add to Ballabriggs' success here in 2011.

He's been very disappointing this season but we found a few small problems with him which we have hopefully managed to iron out. This will tell us whether we have or not but he's on a good mark now and he's got his ground for the first time this season. This is a very competitive race but he's been there and done it at the festivals in the past and if he is back to his best, and his recent work seems to suggest he is, then he would have to have a chance.
Across The Bay
He ran well for a long way here last year when he had plenty of use made of him and has paid his way again this winter. He's in grand form at home and this has been the target for some time - you couldn't be confident but granted a bit of luck then I would like to think he would give a good account.
He's done well this year, winning a couple of times at Kelso, and he seems in great form. You never really know how they will take to the place and it's a very different test to anything he's faced before but he deserves to take his chance and we will have to see how he gets on.
He's been in good form this season but a result of that is that he is up in the weights. He seems very well suited by soft ground so you couldn't be sure he would appreciate the better ground and he's done his winning in weaker company. He's earned the right to have a crack at a race like this but I don't see that he is particularly well handicapped any more.
He's a grand young horse who we bought at the sales after he beat one of ours (Master Dee; has won since) at Catterick in December. His work at home has been very good since we've had him and I think he is a good prospect - quite where we stand going into a race like this remains to be seen. He will be going hurdling in the autumn but I think he's good enough to take his chance in a race like this and we should find out a lot more about him after this.
