With Daryl Carter away researching hard ahead of the National Hunt season, Nathan Joyes takes over and guides you through what is likely to be a wet and windy Wednesday...
"The return to the scene of his victory in this race last year bodes well for Colin Tizzard's horse, even if he is now running off a 9lb higher mark since that win."
Hello and welcome to Wednesday's racing action. Daryl Carter is having a well deserved break this week but I've located plenty of stats and information to keep you scrolling.
Wednesday sees two jumps meetings at Ludlow and Sedgefield, but if you're not done with the flat just yet then do not panic - Navan, Nottingham before a Kempton evening card should provide more than enough entertainment for you.
Money Talk continues to highlight the Betfair Sportsbook big-money moves to keep you in the loop. This section highlights market moves between 1:00 am and 9:00 am.
16:25 Ludlow: Camembert Electric 16/1 into 11/1
The market says LAY!
Which horse are the Betfair markets suggesting to Lay on the Exchange?
Horses for courses
This section highlights horses that have won twice or more at today's tracks and could be in with a chance today.
Stat of the day
This section highlights a trainer, owner or jockey who is in excellent current form and their runners or rides for the day.
Trainer B. Duffy is currently two from two and is looking to keep his 100% record intact this afternoon, where he has entered Mean Fomhair in the 16:05 at Navan.
Jockey Daryl Jacob has won five from his last 15 attempts at Sedgefield (33%) and today heads north to ride Sheila Nash in the 15:23 and Raffles Gitane in the 17:05 - both horses have had a wind op since their last run.
Keith Dalgleish travels a whopping 392 miles to Kempton today with Solider's Minute, who will be competing in the 19:00.
Having already won over course and distance, the six-year-old finished a head second at Ayr last time out and Betfair ambassador Ryan Moore now takes over this evening.
Race of the day
The standout race this Wednesday for me is the 14:05 Handicap Chase over at Ludlow, where although only five runners go to post, there's plenty of quality looking to land the prize.
The market leader, Shoal Bay, won comfortably with his front running tactics over course and distance two runs ago under the ride of Jonjo O'Neil jr. The eight-year-old looked sure to make it two from two at Worcester only for Brendan Powell to be unseated in the final half furlong when his saddle slipped, in what was a very bizarre finish.
Nevertheless, Shoal Bay will certainly be hoping to reward his followers once more and the return to the scene of his victory in this race last year bodes well for Colin Tizzard's horse, even if he is now running off a 9lb higher mark since that win.
Next in the market is Pink Eyed Pedro, who has finished runner up in his last three outings this season. However, arguably he deserves a change of luck having come up against a couple of well-treated rivals, including Vision Des Flos at Warwick last time out.
David Brace's 10-year-old has previously won over this distance in the past and has looked to be crying out for a longer trip judging on his last few runs and his trainer has made the decision to do just that, in hope of recording a fourth chase win.
Outonpatrol is another horse in this small field which has been successful at Ludlow, having won a four runner affair back in May over 2m4f. Alan King's seven-year-old then ran a big race to finish second at Worcester over 2m7f before finishing a modest fourth at Bangor over the 3m trip.
Although he hasn't been disgraced since, Outonpatrol doesn't seem to be screaming out for another crack at 3m and the softening ground could make it an even stiffer task for King's horse. If Shoal Bay gets in a good jumping rhythm out in front, Outonpatrol may not be able to cope with the pace in this three miler.
Timeform offer up three of their best
Timeform head to Nottingham this afternoon providing their NAP, Next Best and Each-Way selection.
Personally, you can't beat a midweek trip to Sedgefield. It's a fantastic course. If you're having a bet there today, it is key to choose a strong, galloping horse who will endure the tough task Sedgefield presents. Course and distance winners, or horses which have performed well at the likes of Hexham, Perth and Cartmel are all worth a second glance.
On a final note, here at Betting.Betfair, we have an exciting Tipstar competition launching this Saturday, and I'm buzzing to break the news to you all later today. We have some great racing judges battling it out over the next four weeks, so stay tuned and find out who will be competing.
That's all from me today, good luck!
