Newbury Angles

Trainer Andrew Balding is looking for a three-timer in Newbury's 13:07 BetVictor Proud Sponsors Of Newbury EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes with Dubai Jewel 3.02/1.

Trainer William Haggas will look for a third win in the 13:40 BetVictor EBF Maiden Stakes with his newcomer Alvediston 4.57/2 - he sent out Alenquer to win this race last term.

In the 15:20 BetVictor St Hugh's Stakes, no horse has won the race with a penalty in the last ten years. Potential lay bet with last time out winner Choux.

No SP favourite has won the 16:30 Christopher Smith Associates Handicap in its entire five runnings.

Another top knotcher from Gosden at Newmarket?

John Gosden over at Newmarket has sent out the winner of 18:08 Rich Energy British EBF Novice Stakes three times in the last four years. His previous winners are Roaring Lion, Waldstern and Megallan, perhaps suggesting he thinks highly of Saga 1.910/11.

Look no further than the three-year-olds at Nottingham in the 15:00 MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Maiden Stakes. They have scored in all five renewals.

At Thirsk in the 19:53 Watch On Racing TV Handicap, trainer David O'Meara is looking for his fourth win in the race with Turandot 3.02/1.

Race of the day

The 19:38 Rich Energy Sugar Free Handicap at Newmarket looks like a tricky contest, but one well worth getting stuck into, given there is plenty of competition for the lead.

I underestimated Thibaan at Haydock last time, and he put in a career-best performance when making all of the running that day.

The handicapper has had his say with just a three pounds rise, suggesting he thinks the form is not up to much. I would concur, given the circumstances, but his lightly raced profile gives optimism that there could be more to come.

He won't get a soft lead this time, however.

Hydros is easily the most interesting runner given how well his debut form has worked out and the impressive manner of his victory last term on soft ground.

He wasn't disgraced in a hot small field contest on a low-key return, and a step forward can be expected.

He could easily be ahead of the handicapper off this opening mark of 90, but he is hardly inconspicuous, and I am not telling you anything you didn't already know.

The value here could lie with Power Of Darkness, who is more exposed than most in this field but shaped with plenty of promise at Newmarket on the wrong side of the course in a highly competitive handicap and stuck to the task gamely.

His penultimate run was full of promise in first time cheek-pieces when held up off a slow pace at Bath, and the handicapper has taken a chance leaving him on the same mark.

The cheek-pieces go back on today and granted a likely strong pace the race could just set up for him, so he makes plenty of appeal back in a small field scenario.

Timeform hoping for a productive Friday at Curragh

Final Word

That's all from me this week, folks. Again I hope the info provided during the week has been helpful to you in finding some winners.

The weekend looks a belter, so make sure you watch the Betting.betfair.com website for loads of insight across the board.

I can't leave you without mentioning one on Saturday in which bookmakers have indeed gone mad in offering 15.014/1 about D'bai in a weak renewal of the Hungerford Stakes.

There are only four Group winners in the field, and a pair of those were as two-year-olds with the other in a weak fillies race. That leaves D'bai, a dual Group winner and the most decorated in the field, and he has ideal conditions here.

Until Monday, be lucky.
