Today's Racing News: All-weather angles on Tuesday to pay dividends as Nottingham sole turf card

It's Tuesday, and Daryl Carter is back to provide punters with invaluable information for the days racing as he gives you your daily Betfair briefing.

"However, it's worth mentioning that the most surprising thing (as mentioned in last weeks column) is that people are astounded that this is happening?"

Race of the day

The 15:35 Nottingham It Pays To Buy Irish EBF Conditions Stakes looks a trappy heat with four of the five with a realistic chance of landing this prize. It's worth noting; there is a lack of pace in this race, so it could turn tactical.

Motagally has been well-supported overnight into favouritism, and he caught the eye, finishing strongly at Beverley last time behind a subsequent winner in Caspian Prince, and the third and fifth are both winners since.

He failed to handle the track, was squeezed for room and had to switch to make his challenge once the race was over, but he did have Tarboosh in behind on that occasion.

That signalled he might be ready to strike, and this galloping track will suit him well. Given he is a strong stayer at this trip, Jim Crowley may opt to make the running, and he is a big player on these terms.

Tarboosh has a great record in small field events and an even better one when it comes to this time of year, but he had very few excuses for his Beverley run two starts ago and only ran respectably at York on his latest start.

The return to Nottingham (won this in 2018) could spark him back into life, but I would be more inclined to wait for the Scarborough Stakes at Doncaster, a track he seems to excel at, in September before backing him.

Dubai Station ran with extreme credit when second at Hamilton last time off the back of a gelding operation, and he is entitled to improve for that effort.

He is unexposed over 5f after just the six starts - three of which have come in group company.

He now needs to back that effort up, and his overall profile doesn't give optimistic hopes, but he remains a very interesting runner.

Final Word

Lee Mottershead wrote an excellent column this week, commenting on drug use by racegoers at Lingfield as well as the appalling behaviour after the event.

However, it's worth mentioning that the most surprising thing (as mentioned in last weeks column) is that people are astounded that this is happening?

Unfortunately, drugs and alcohol have gone hand in hand where I am from for a long, long time, and I suspect many others too, so to see this spill out onto a racecourse where groups are encouraged to drink as much as possible is no shocking revelation.

Unless racecourses decide to make a stand and seriously look at doing something about big groups of people drinking until their hearts content, drugs will always be on racecourses in the pockets or socks of most young people.

There is nothing wrong with having a good drink at the races, providing you can control yourself, but to think a small handful of security is going to clamp down on the issue when people are spread thousands wide around the course is just silly.

Segregation of big groups into an enclosure is the only way to police it, but it's no good moaning if those swinging the sword are not going to chop any heads.
