Race of the day
Today's feature contest is Wincanton's 15:00 Dick Hunt 'Wigmore' Handicap Chase, where a strong and competitive field of 14 heads to post and the Betfair Sportsbook is paying an extra place!
Paul Nicholls' Southfield Harvest surely has a contest in him off of this winnable rating of 130 on the evidence of his staying on fourth at Chepstow when given far too much to do from the rear of the field.
He did best of those held up in that contest and caught the eye despite a poor round of jumping at Fontwell on return from 557-days off the track. Connections have persisted with him, and he now returns to Wincanton, where he ran an excellent race over hurdles.
It's a positive to see Harry Cobden on board and a revert to front running tactics is not out of the question. They served him well when bolting up in a Novice Chase at Newton Abbot and there is more to come.
The big danger could come from the progressive Certainly Red, who has now got his jumping together after a trip to Hernietta Knights. He has the ability, has notched a course victory here recently, and now has a record of 11421 when going right-handed in the last 18 months.
He makes an appeal back up in distance and will make a good fist off this career-high rating.
It's no negative to see cheek-pieces on a Joe Tizzard runner, and Copperhead remains dangerously well-handicapped. The switch back to fences looks like a good move after being outpaced over the smaller obstacles, and he is no forlorn hope in this field. In fact, I might have a small saver!
Big race verdict
A smashing race, but this can go to Paul Nicholls and Southfield Harvest, who is destined to capitalise on this rating sooner or later and to revert to prominent tactics will serve him well in this company.
Mullins to dominate Dublin?

This weekend's Dublin Racing Festival is one of the last chances to glean major clues for the Irish raiders ahead of next month's Cheltenham Festival, so no prizes for guessing which trainer is set to dominate proceedings. Mike Norman has the details...

Final Word
It was good to land a punt on Jacamar yesterday at Leicester, and thankfully no chicken nuggets got in the way of this one. He had optimum conditions, but it was a tough watch, and the money was never safe until the final 100 yards.
I am back at Wincanton today on box duty, and I am looking forward to a handful on the card with Southfield Harvest, an old favourite of mine I am desperate to see go well.
I am on the Nicholls bandwagon today with his other runner Fame And Fun, as well as Southfield Harvest, who looks ahead of the assesor and class-dropper Spartan Army for Alan King.
Whatever you bet today, be lucky.
