The seemingly unbeatable Douvan was backed like a sure thing at Cheltenham today, with more than £6m traded at [1.3] or less, but never got going as Special Tiara finally claims a Champion Chase...

"The in-running betting tells the story of the race - Douvan backed in to [1.24], and more than £6,000,000 traded at [1.3] or shorter - while Fox Norton, the second favourite, touched [1.28] in the run."

The 2017 Cheltenham Festival witnessed its first major shock when Douvan failed to land the Champion Chase when going off [1.26] favourite.

Few horses have started a Festival race as short as Douvan but Willie Mullins' star chaser was never right and ended the race trailed off in seventh.

Special Tiara, Champion Chase third in 2015 and 2016, won the race wire-to-wire edging out Fox Norton in a dramatic finish.

The in-running betting tells the story of the race - Douvan backed in to [1.24], and more than £6,000,000 traded at [1.3] or shorter - while Fox Norton, the second favourite, touched [1.28] in the run.

Special Tiara started the race with a Betfair Starting Price of 41.49, nearly four times better than the industry SP of 11/1. Douvan's BSP was [1.26].

Post-race reports suggest that Douvan suffered an injury during the race.
