Just two runners for Betfair Ambassador Joseph O'Brien on the third day of the Cheltenham Festival but he's hopeful of a big run in the Pertempts Final...
"He has been in great form at home and will handle the soft ground. I’d be hopeful he can run well."
- Joseph O'Brien on Thermistocles
Hopeful of a good run
The Pertemps 14:10 - Thermistocles
Thermistocles is a lightly-raced hurdler that has improved since entering handicap company and stepping up in trip. He ran well when third in a qualifier for this race at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting and we decided to train him for this race after that. He has been in great form at home and will handle the soft ground. I'd be hopeful he can run well.
We are also looking forward to him being our first runner in the colours of Martin St Quinton. Martin owned Urubande who gave my father his first Cheltenham Festival winner in what is now the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle back in 1996 and it's great to have a runner in his colours.
Experienced chaser has claims if at his best
Kim Muir Chase 17:30 - Arkwrisht
Arkwrisht is a good solid handicap chaser and he has been threatening to go close in a big one for a while. He has plenty of experience over fences, but he is still inclined to take the odd chance at a fence and he paid the price for that on his latest start when unseating his rider at Punchestown.
He will like the soft ground and has a chance if he puts it all together. He'll be ridden be Tom Hamilton who is based with me full time and knows the horse well.
