A couple of races at Kempton have caught Alan Dudman's eye - and he has two big-priced selections running on Wednesday evening...
"An outing at Newbury towards the backend of last term was one to note. He was checked and denied a run 2f out in a stronger race than today's, and he should go close from his mark of 87."
Son of Frankel looks overpriced
17:45 Kempton - Back Zefferino @ 17.016/1 - Non Runner
I was quite surprised to see Zefferino available to back on the Sportsbook on Tuesday evening at 16/1, and whilst his latest effort at Southwell was a poor one, he is worth a little interest in the Kempton opener.
As a son of Frankel, he possesses his father's keen tendencies. A common theme in this horses' career has been an inability to settle, and whilst he will suit tonight's distance - he needs to calm down a little.
However, there are positives.
He has raced in stronger affairs than tonight's 0-75, and his two comeback runs after his gelding operation this winter have been slightly encouraging (albeit with his keen-going way).
Zefferino showed a fair bit of promise early in his career, and his mark has dropped down from 83 to 72, so on that alone he is worth an interest.
Drawn in 12 might help too, as his jockey will have no option other than to tuck him in nice and early to get plenty of cover.
Repton in calmer waters on Wednesday night
19:45 Kempton - Back Repton @ 9.08/1
This looks a fair race for the grade, but the top weight Repton is dropping in class and was unsurprisingly supported on the Sportsbook last night. Back him at around 9.08/1.
He was a very good juvenile who competed at Group and Listed level - but he didn't quite cut it at a higher grade. Like many youngsters who show a lot of ability early in their careers, he suffered with his mark and was basically walloped by the handicapper with a three-figure rating.
Repton then struggled for the whole of a winless 2017, but he has dropped down to a feasible 87 - which is very appealing considering he beat Second Thought as a 2yo (who is now a Listed winner rated 107).
An outing at Newbury towards the backend of last term was one to note. He was checked and denied a run 2f out in a stronger race than today's, and he should go close from his mark of 87.
I don't have a particularly good record backing Richard Hannon horses - so hopefully we can change that on Wednesday night.
