Nick Shiambouros is focusing on the second day of Puchestown with two strong fancies from the Festival...
"I think he has every chance of reversing the places, providing he relaxes"
16:55 Punchestown - Monalee
Monalee is my idea of the winner of this fascinating contest.
This talented performer finished second to Penhill in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham last month. He took the lead on the run to the final flight, but was soon collared by the winner and had to settle for a place. He expended at lot of energy by racing keenly in the early going, and ultimately paid the price when the chips were down. I think he has every chance of reversing the places, providing he relaxes. At present he is trading at 4.67/2 on the exchange.
Presenting Percy is the current favourite at 3.7511/4. He was most impressive when winning the Pertemps at Cheltenham and clearly has more to offer. This race is tougher, but is heading in the right direction and must be respected.
17:30 Punchestown - Djakadam
Djakadam is taken to win this mouthwatering event.
This high class individual finished fourth to Sizing John in the Gold Cup last month. He made a bad mistake two from home and was readily outpaced by the winner. I do not like making excuses for beaten horses, but there is no doubt in my mind that he would have finished a lot closer had he not made that blunder. He travels strongly in his races and should go very close with a trouble free round.
Sizing John is the obvious danger. He was most impressive when winning the Gold Cup but is priced accordingly at 2.0811/10. He is a deserving favourite, but will have to be at his very best to win this.
Coneygree must be mentioned. He has only raced once this season due to setbacks, and will be a threat to all if running up to his best.
