Bets Of The Day: Gavlar can be a force at Kempton

Will Gavlar win at Kempton on Wednesday evening?
Will Gavlar win at Kempton on Wednesday evening?

Alan Dudman has swerved the opening day of the Ebor festival at York to concentrate on three bets at Kempton...

"I tipped Gavlar in the wacky race at Glorious Goodwood. I was a little disappointed with him, and looking again at his effort, his stamina wasn't quite up to the 2m5f test on that occasion."

Back Gavlar @ 6/1 in the 20:40 at Kempton (price on Sportsbook)

18:40 Kempton - Back Miss Blondell

Presumably named after the legendary US actress Joan Blondell, this chestnut filly caught just about everyone's eye when finishing to some effect at Goodwood recently.

The Marcus Tregoning horse was sent off 50/1 that day, and went down six lengths in that maiden won by Notary. Godolphin's Pure Diamond finished further behind, and yet she came out to absolutely hack up at Kempton on Tuesday afternoon - and could be heading for some pattern races.

There is hope on the pedigree, as her dam was an all-weather winner. The fact that the track is riding on the slow side too, ought to suit Miss Blondell, as Goodwood's unique venue was quite a test (certainly for her debut).

The namesake starred in a TV series called 'The Greatest Show On Earth'. That won't be at Kempton on Wednesday - but there could be one at York if Gleneagles lines up.

19:40 Kempton - Back-to-lay Pretty Bubbles

Pretty Bubbles is a really bonny mare, and she's returning to Kempton; a track she absolutely loves.

She is running from a mark of 85 and has to concede weight, which is a worry about her winning, but she is so consistent here that she is the type to give you a run.

However, her trading CV is far more interesting, having collected nine odds-on in-running defeats (three here).

There's a chance she'll be overlooked, which is great if you are looking to 'get in and out' with a bet.

20:40 Kempton - Back Gavlar

I tipped Gavlar in the wacky race at Glorious Goodwood. I was a little disappointed with him, and looking again at his effort, his stamina wasn't quite up to the 2m5f test on that occasion.

Wednesday's contest however is a lot easier, and this is a marked drop in class down to a 0-85.

William Knight's four-year-old races from the same mark of 82 and the yard's horses are running OK. In the past he has perhaps been given too much to do, and that might be a worry with 7lb claimer Callum Shepherd. However, the jockey has ridden a couple of winners around here, and has been more successful on the all-weather.

The fact I put him up a few weeks ago yet now he is 6/1 in a far easier race means he is a bet here.

Wednesday's Recommended Bets

Back Miss Blondell @ 4.03/1 to win in the 18:40 at Kempton
Back-to-lay Pretty Bubbles @ 8.207/1 to 3.1511/5 in the 19:40 at Kempton
Back Gavlar @ 6/1 in the 20:40 at Kempton (price on Sportsbook)
