Bets of the Day: She could be anything at Southwell

What Could She Be - Maybe we will find out more today
What Could She Be - Maybe we will find out more today

Both Alan's selections won yesterday for the second time this week, giving him six winners from eight selections this week. Today he is at Lingfield and Southwell...

"I think because of What Could She Be's experience on this surface she could finally get her head in front today and break her maiden tag."

Michael Dods will try to get a win out of What Could She Be at Southwell today in her 11th start. However, three of those starts have been on the all weather and she has twice run second on this fibresand surface. The three-year-old filly moved from Bryan Smart's yard to Dod's County Durham yard in July and after some pretty mediocre performances, she has finished a respectable second and fourth in her last two starts. Her last start was at Redcar where she was running on strongly at the finish over seven furlongs on testing ground suggesting this step up in trip and a return to this slower surface could suit.

The horse to beat is Nosey Barker from the Richard Hannon yard but he is making his debut on the fibresand and has been running over longer trips than he encounters today. I think because of What Could She Be's experience on this surface she could finally get her head in front today and break her maiden tag.

13:00 Lingfield - Midnight Silver @ 4.03/1 Exchange

This is a really interesting Maiden Hurdle where I want to be with Jamie Snowdon's charge Midnight Silver against the in form Harry Fry stable(who did us a favour yesterday) who run Jessbers Dream and the other market principle Happy Diva who finished in front of Midnight Silver last time out at Towcester.

That race at Towcester was over one mile seven furlongs and I think the step up in trip to two miles three furlongs will be better suited to Midnight Silver. She jumped very well throughout at Towcester and looked the winner turning in but she hung left up the straight, and essentially threw 1st and 2nd place away. However, she stayed all day and this longer distance looks ideal. Jessbers Dream has only had the one start and that was over two miles and Noel Fehily started to get serious a good two furlongs from the finish, eventually finishing a distant fourth.

I think against the two market contenders Midnight Silver has to have a good chance and at 4.03/1 available on the Exchange she looks good value to me.
