Bets Of The Day: Mountain to hunt down his rivals for Godolphin

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor
Alan Dudman is expecting trainer Saeed bin Surror to win the 18:00 at Meydan

Alan heads to the sunnier reaches of Meydan in search of a winner on Thursday - and he has picked out two races in the desert to sign off from a profitable week...

"Last time the Saeed bin Suroor 4yo couldn't lead in a race behind Blair House at the track, he was also a little keen over 1m1f. However, it wasn't a bad run at all."

Back Mountain Hunter @ 3.02/1 in the 18:00 at Meydan

Can the mighty Vazirabad be toppled?

16:50 Meydan - Back Rare Rhythm @ 4.03/1

It's nice to write about something without mentioning the snow, and this Meydan 1m6f Group 3 sees the return of the great Vazirabad.

The Cadran winner always travels with a bit more style than the usual stayer, but he was beaten in this race last year and wasn't given an overly hard time of things - so with him potentially needing the outing, I'll be looking to Rare Rhythm. Which is something John Sheeran has mentioned in his preview of this race.

This fragile 6yo has got loads of ability, and looked a horse going places with two quality wins in the summer at Royal Ascot over 1m4f and a Listed victory at York over 1m6f. He landed the latter with a fair bit in hand, and has that ability to accelerate for a stayer. Yet again a marvellous advert for his sire Dubawi.

He can use that pace on the quicker ground here, which really suits.

However, the strong angle is backing him fresh - as he goes well after a break. I expect a price of around 3/1. Whilst betting opportunities looked a bit thin on the ground for Thursday, he looks a horse that could take advantage of any rustiness concerning Vazirabad.

Mountain drawn to attack in finale

18:00 Meydan - Back Mountain Hunter @ 3.02/1

No surprises I am sticking with another Godolphin horse for this 1m2f handicap - and Mountain Hunter is drawn well for a front-runner to dominate again. He was available to back at around 3.259/4 last night.

Last time the Saeed bin Suroor 4yo couldn't lead in a race behind Blair House at the track, he was also a little keen over 1m1f. However, it wasn't a bad run at all.

Previously he had beaten Banksea from the front fairly comfortably from a poor draw, but he looks well placed in five to attack from the front under Pat Cosgrave.

I expect better from Kidmenever too, who should improve for his run last time from a bad position, but he's parked out wide again.
