As the political parties chase power on Thursday, Alan Dudman is voting for Fill The Power and Master Of Finance using the full array of Betfair products...
"I'm picking the latter, who has contested much better races such as The Eider, Scottish and Midlands Nationals. He has come down to a mark of 127."
Trainer Mark Johnston landed this handicap in 2011 with Jutland, and he has chance to pull off the same feat with Master Of Finance in this 10f handicap. He has a similar profile to that former winner - in the sense he doesn't look a standout in terms of his mark - but the victor four years ago improved as a 4yo, and hopefully MOF can do so as well.
He'll be a double figure price and you have to forgive a woeful run last time at Ripon, but I can easily do that for a horse from this yard. He is well drawn for a front runner and his course record reads 1st, 2nd . He also has two of his three career wins on good to soft ground. Jockey and 'Man O' Chester' Franny Norton will try and boss this to aid the play.
He's worth a go at 11/1 on Sportsbook, but I very much like him as a back-to-lay bet here.
19:10 Carlisle - Fill The Power
This looks quite a good staying handicap, and the two towards the head of the market; Mister Marker and Fill The Power are both well treated.
I'm picking the latter, who has contested much better races such as The Eider, Scottish and Midlands Nationals. He has come down to a mark of 127, although has been nudged up 2lbs after his run over CD last time. That was a much better effort from the Sue Smith horse, and the yard struck at Hexham recently with the equally well handicapped Pinerolo.
He is the type to bully a race, and whilst he can hit a flat spot, he can also make the running (although Orange Nassau can as well). If you are brave, put in an order of double figures in-running if he comes off the bridle. But he's a strong stayer and fairly versatile ground wise.
