Bets Of The Day: Go for a big price sprinter at Ripon on Sunday

Alan's two bets on Sunday race at Stratford and Ripon

Oriental Splendour hasn't fired in two runs this season, but Alan Dudman is hoping for a return to form for Ruth Carr's runner on Sunday...

"He's a better horse than the one we saw at Hamilton last time out. He was poorly positioned in that and the speedster is certainly good enough to win from his rating."

Conditions to suit O'Neill's Box Office

14:35 Stratford - Back Box Office @ 8.07/1

Living up to his own name hasn't been easy for Box Office. If a film had been made about his last three runs in testing ground, I doubt many would have watched. Much like one of the worst movies I have ever seen - Archipelago.

Clearly Jonjo O'Neill's chaser has been struggling with a few things. Ground primarily has been an issue; as running on a testing surface doesn't suit. He's also been out a few times over 3m - a trip he has never really convinced over.

However, the quicker terrain will be more to his liking and he is certainly handicapped to win a race from 109.

He has sharp track form at Market Rasen; having won there last March over 2m3f. He absolutely tanked through that race, so I am hoping the conditions will help and stoke a revival.

Sprinter Splendour a massive price

17:00 Ripon - Back Oriental Splendour @ BSP

Oriental Splendour was priced up at 14/1 on the Sportsbook last night as the outsider of the lot in this sprint, but on last season's form he has a chance.

His last victory came at his beloved Pontefract last June - a slightly better race than today's and the 6yo bolted up on that occasion. He runs today off a 2lb lower mark from 65, and he's a better horse than the one we saw at Hamilton last time out. He was poorly positioned in that and he's certainly good enough to win from his rating.

He likes them to go hard up front so he can pick them off late and power through.

Ruth Carr's sprinter didn't have a bad 2017 and he's fairly adaptable in terms of ground. He'll be a big price, so I am sticking with the play on the Betfair SP.
