Snowhas claimed today's racing at Ffos Las and Carlisle, so Alan Dudman sticks with a couple of bets on the Limerick card for Sunday...
"As the best horse on ratings here; the race does lack a bit of depth. He stays 3m well and acts on a deep surface and really dug deep to win this contest 12 months ago, so hopefully he can do the same again."
Doyle mare can improve on Punchestown run
15:35 Limerick - Back Nerual @ 9.08/1
With inspections and snow for other meetings, I will attempt to play safe with a couple of bets on the Limerick card - although with this weather, you never quite know what's around the corner.
Backing Nerual here is a small stakes bet for me, but she is worth considering.
She had a break of 85 days before her last run at Thurles; a race where she never really seemed happy in the first-time blinkers. Maybe she resented the headgear, but I suspect it might have been a lack of fitness as she looked rusty.
Her effort at Punchestown previously was far better, and she shaped like a real stayer on that occasion. Coming back down in trip to 2m5f in deep ground might also be a big help.
Lantern to shine bright in finale
17:15 Limerick - Back Paper Lantern @ 4.03/1
The Graded races didn't really appeal to me, so the closing staying handicap over fences gets the nod - and we'll stick with last year's winner Paper Lantern.
He'll need to produce a personal best from his mark of 122, but he showed enough last time at Naas over 3m to suggest he is returning to form following a fairly quiet spell running over hurdles.
As the best horse on ratings here; the race does lack a bit of depth. He stays 3m well and acts on a deep surface and really dug deep to win this contest 12 months ago, so hopefully he can do the same again.
