Nick Shiambouros returns with a couple of fancies from the second day of the Christmas meeting at Kempton...
"The Nicholls stable has made some shrewd acquisitions in France over the years, and this individual could be another"
12:50 Kempton - Favorito Buck's
Favorito Buck's should make his presence felt in this interesting contest.
This gelding won a Listed race in great style for unraced horses over fences and hurdles at Auteuil in September. He was quickly snapped up by Paul Nicholls after that impressive performance and makes his UK debut today.
The Nicholls stable has made some shrewd acquisitions from France over the years, and this individual could be another. I rarely back imports on debut, but I have a strong suspicion this horse could have a bright future. He is trading at 2.8815/8 on the exchange which is no surprise.
The obvious danger to the selection is Ashoka. This gelding won a Juvenile Hurdle easily at Warwick earlier this month and looks sure to progress.
Gibralfaro is worth a mention. He is another French import with winning form in the Provinces and comes from a stable that has does well in this sphere.
15:10 Kempton - Broxbourne
Broxbourne should run well in this mares only handicap hurdle.
Earlier this month at Cheltenham she was a little disappointing when finishing sixth to Lily Waugh. She met interference on the bend and was beaten a fair way out.
She had previously beaten Our Kaempfer at Aintree which reads well in the context of this race. I am prepared to give her another chance and have backed her at her current price of 5.69/2 on the exchange.
Desert Queen is the favourite at 2.767/4. She beat Altesse De Guye by a wide margin at Ascot and is a mare on the upgrade. She has gone up in the weights, but is open to further improvement.
