Will the real Autocratic turn up?
13:50 Newbury - Back Autocratic @ 5.04/1
Sir Michael Stoute's Autocratic has been a bit of a mixed bag in his career to date. When he's good, he looks like a decent horse - as seen when winning last season's Brigadier Gerard.
However, since then he hasn't kicked on, and the 5yo does throw in the odd stinker. Caveat emptor.
Fast ground at 1m2f suits, and he has put together back-to-back strong efforts at Royal Ascot and Goodwood. Indeed, last time in the Wolferton he ran on quite well to finish fourth at a massive price.
On his day he has a touch of class, and he has the ability to be a bit better than Listed level. Hopefully the first-time tongue tie and visor will do the trick.
Gosden's young stayer to relish the extra distance
14:25 Newbury - Back Almoghared @ 9.08/1
I backed Almoghared for the Queen's Vase and tipped him here for Royal Ascot, so I am happy to give him another shot going handicapping from 103 in Saturday's JLT Handicap.
He coped well with the step up in grade last time, and whilst it may be pocket talking, I thought he was given quite a lot to do at Ascot, even if the pace was a searching one over 1m6f.
In my opinion he looks an out-and-out stayer who wants fast ground - so the further step up in trip will play to his strengths.
As the only 3yo in the field, he is receiving plenty of weight here and warrants plenty of interest at around the 9.08/1 mark.
