With plenty of racing to look forward to on Saturday, our resident for the next week Alan Dudman heads to Newmarket and Catterick in search of a winner...

"He was a progressive stayer at a moderate sort of level in 2016. In fact, he won a couple of races including one over course and distance in quite nice style."

Back Dew Pond @ [8.0] in the 16:05 at Catterick

Alqamar has a point to prove at HQ

15:40 Newmarket - Back Alqamar @ [12.50]

I am prepared to give Alqamar another chance at a fair price for this staying handicap, as I am convinced there is a decent horse in there somewhere. His two solid runs at Newmarket's Rowley Mile certainly gives him a shout in this race, but he does have a risk or two.

Maybe he hasn't put it all in during previous races, and he has been gelded and worn headgear. Cheekpieces are retained today.

However, with the bad comes the good; and one or two bits of form in the past certainly makes him interesting at around [12.0].

Last time out he raced over 1m6f in a messy affair. That contest didn't have too much pace, and prior to that he was slightly unlucky over 1m4f - where he met a bit of trouble late on. He can build on those two runs.

Charlie Appleby can hopefully coax something out of this son of Dubawi, and as a horse with one of the best pedigrees in the village, hopefully he can do something this afternoon from his current mark of 92.

Easterby form to continue with stayer

16:05 Catterick - Back Dew Pond @ [8.0]

There's some decent action at some of the top tracks on Saturday, but I am happy to head to Catterick in search of a winner. Hopefully in-form trainer Tim Easterby can strike again with Dew Pond.

He returned to action at Ripon recently after a mammoth absence of 601 days. He was a big price and didn't achieve anything, and the handicapper has reacted by lowering him 3lb to 70.

The "bounce" could come into play, but I am happy to take a chance now that he has a run under his belt, as he was a progressive stayer at a moderate sort of level in 2016. In fact, he won a couple of races including one over course and distance in quite nice style.

Dew Pond stays but also can travel well with a nice turn of foot. Good ground seems to suit him well.

It was pleasing to see a bit of money for him on the Sportsbook last night with the horse cut from 10/1 into 7/1.
