Nick Shiambouros is focusing on the last day of the Ebor meeting with three selections...

"He is unbeaten on the flat this term and has plenty more to offer"

14:00 York - Top Notch Tonto

Top Notch Tonto is an interesting runner in this competitive Group 3.

This gelding finished a close second to Tullius in the York Stakes over ten furlongs. He looked the likely winner deep inside the final furlong, but was collared close home and had to settle for a place.

He previously won a Listed race over this course when beating Gabrial over a mile on similar ground that he will encounter today.

Nine furlongs on ground with a little juice is tailor made for him, and I will be surprised if he does not go close.

I think he represents super value at 8.07/1 on the exchange.

15:10 York - King Of Rooks

The Wesley Ward trained Finnegan heads the market at 4.3100/30. He won a maiden on fast ground at Pimlico in May, but this is a much sterner test for this son of Unbridled's Song. In addition he is unproven on the ground, and represents poor value in my opinion.

This is a wide open event, but I think the play is to back King Of Rooks in the place market at around 2.01/1. He finished a decent second to Kachy in the Molecomb, and I think the return to six furlongs will suit him.

He retains his form well, and I will be disappointed if he does not make the frame at the very least.

Buratino must be respected but the softer ground is a major concern.

15:45 York - Clondaw Warrior

I was relieved when I heard the news that Clondaw Warrior had snuck in to this historic race.

This gelding beat Golden Spear in great style in a valuable handicap at Galway last month. He swept to the front in the straight, and kept on strongly to win with a bit in hand. He is unbeaten on the flat this term and has plenty more to offer.

I think he will go very close and is fairly priced at 7.413/2 on the exchange.

Galway Hurdle winner Quick Jack could be the main danger to the selection. He finished second to Trip To Paris at Chester and has to be considered.
