  • Poor jumper of fences

  • Hurdles mark 10lb lower

  • Regina Dracones is overpriced at Cork

Cork - 14:23 - Back Thegreenthirteen

With doubts for various reasons over many of those at the front of the market in the opening maiden hurdle at Cork, I'm hoping for an upset and there's one horse at a massive price who I think could run better than the market is currently suggesting.

Thegreenthirteen had two starts in Irish points last month and failed to complete on both occasions but showed that he has some ability. On his debut, he made the running for the first two circuits with his jumping having varying degrees on fluency. Having been joined at the last with a circuit to go, he was then allowed to stride on with a little more purpose approaching the next and went a few lengths clear but he reached for it, hit the top and fell.

He was sent out again a week later in testing conditions at Nenagh and once again raced with some enthusiasm in front while not always jumping fluently for the first two circuits. He was headed at three out but initially stayed in touch on the long run to two out. However, once turning into the home straight he had nothing left and was pulled up before the last.

The way that he went through those races and his breeding suggests that Thegreenthirteen will be better suited by this sharper test and that he has some ability. It turn out that he was flattered by being able to make the running or that this will be another step along his education and it will be low grade handicaps where he starts to show his ability in the longer term but at such a big price in a race of this quality I can't let him go unbacked. Any 50/151.00 or bigger appeals.

Back Thegreenthirteen in the 14:23 at Cork 0.5pt win at 200/1201.00

Cork - 16:33 - Back Regina Dracones

Regina Dracones hasn't run over hurdles since finishing third when sent off favourite for a handicap at Ballinrobe back in April 2021. While she had success over fences the following season, her jumping has increasingly become a problem and I'm hoping the return to hurdles this afternoon can see her bounce back.

She ran well on her first two starts this season but I don't think the combination of a big field and drop back in trip suited her at Limerick when she was well beaten.

She ended up being beaten 43 lengths two starts ago at Punchestown but ran much better than that suggests as she was only around four lengths behind the leader at the last when she made a bad mistake and was eased after.

On her latest start, Regina Dracones' jumping wasn't too slick and I think she found the company too strong in the Grand National trial.

She's now back over hurdles, where hopefully she will jump better, off a 10lb lower mark than she has over fences. Given she's achieved that rating over fences despite jumping poorly, that suggests she's improved since she was last seen over hurdles and she finally has the chance to show that in this sphere. Any 8/19.00 or bigger appeals.

Back Regina Dracones in the 16:33 at Cork 1pt win at 10/111.00
