Bets Of The Day: Stay on the right road with Bastiman's Milton

Racing close finish
Can Milton Road get his head in front at Carlisle on Monday?

It's a brand new week for Alan Dudman, who heads to Redcar and Carlisle on Monday in search of a winner....

"He has produced three good runs for the yard since the switch from Mick Channon - including a decent effort at Musselburgh last time behind the impressive
Tribal Warrior."

Back Milton Road @ 8.07/1 in the 16:45 at Carlisle

Madam to make some waves away from her favourite Beverley

16:35 Redcar - Back Make On Madam @ 5.04/1

Les Eyre's Make On Madam hasn't won for a while, but she's worth a small interest in this low-grade handicap.

The mare usually runs at Beverley and seems to love the short journey there from Eyre's base, but she placed in quite a few runs on the Westwood last summer from higher marks than today's. Notably a pair of seconds from 69 and 70 - and this afternoon she runs from 62.

In fact, she's been lowered 1lb following her latest run. That wasn't a bad effort behind a winner who was reasonably lightly-raced and unexposed.

She usually sits handy on the pace and acts on quick ground and this 0-70 level is most certainly her grade.

Bastiman to do the job with Milton Road

16:45 Carlisle - Back Milton Road @ 8.07/1

Considering trainer Rebecca Bastiman has done me quite a few good turns with decent prices for this column in 2018, she's very much the one to look for with horses that can win from their current marks.

She has shown time and time again her abilities, so I am happy to side with the yard's Milton Road.

He has produced three good runs for the yard since the switch from Mick Channon - including a decent effort at Musselburgh last time behind the impressive Tribal Warrior. Milton Road was well-positioned in that and received a decent ride, the winner just had too much of a turn of foot.

The selection is unexposed at the trip as he's done the majority of his racing over shorter, but he's shown enough to suggest he stays the distance - even though he is moving to a stiffer track this afternoon.

From a mark of 70, he drops down slightly in grade.
