Alan Dudman looks forward to a decent card at Pontefract on Monday evening, and has two bets including one in the Mr Wolf Handicap at 19:40...
"This horse was progressive last term and enjoyed an excellent campaign which included a fine second to Magic Circle at York."
Chookie to win from the front in Mr Wolf's race
I usually look for front-runners with a low draw at Pontefract, so the selection of Chookie Dunedin ticks both of those boxes.
This confirmed trailblazer drops back in trip from a mile to go sprinting this evening, and the only way to go here is surely to attack from the front.
He went off too hard last time in the Esher Cup, but he finished third in the Royal Mile at Musselburgh from 91 - a mark 2lb higher than today's.
His trainer Keith Dalgleish hasn't exactly been firing in the winners this season, but there were good signs of a revival for the yard on Saturday with a couple of successes and three placed horses.
The trainer also knows this family particularly well being half-brother to the "Chookie" horses Hamilton, Lass, Royale and Avon.
Rewards for backing Easterby again
This looks a cracking 1m4f handicap for a Monday night, and the field looks well up to scratch for a 0-105 race.
My selection here is the Tim Easterby-trained My Reward - who is best when stacking them up and controlling affairs from the front.
He didn't stay in the Chester Cup last time out, and emptied fairly quickly in that, but he ran well on his return to action on his previous start at Ripon. However, there was every chance he might have needed that outing to blow away the cobwebs.
His trainer has never really been convinced by 2m for him, so I like the idea of coming back down in trip to 1m4f this evening - especially at a stiff track.
This horse was progressive last term and enjoyed an excellent campaign which included a fine second to Magic Circle at York. Rated 100, we also should be confident he'll stay well.
