Alan Dudman sticks to the all-weather action for Tuesday, and he fancies a veteran to go well at a decent price at Newcastle, while a juvenile gets the nod at Kempton...
"Tashaaboh made a pleasing enough debut at Ripon. The ground was soft, and he weakened after showing some ability. Ripon isn't the easiest track for a first run, so he should be more clued up."
16:10 Newcastle - Kenny can be the captain again
Kenny The Captain is a bit of an old character, but the six-year-old likes Newcastle and he is the bet at 10/1 on the Sportsbook for this 6f handicap.
The Tim Easterby-trained sprinter actually won a couple of times on the old turf course, and also has form at Carlisle - so he clearly likes these stiff finishes. Also he seems happiest on the straight track here.
We have to forgive a poor run at York last time, but that was a good race, and it was over 7f - and that isn't really his distance.
The Captain won a 0-95 over course and distance last November when rated 85, and he's running from a 6lb lower mark today. He was ridden quite positively over the far side from a low draw on that occasion, and he's berthed 6 today. He's best when he's on the pace.
19:15 Kempton - Burrows' youngster to improve
One of my punting nuances is the second-time-out angle with Owen Burrows, and he sends Tashaaboh to Kempton on Tuesday night . I expect him to improve a fair bit from his debut run.
The marker horse here is Balletomane, who got to within three-quarters of a length to the 102-rated Lansky last time. He's the obvious favourite, but there's every chance he could have been flattered by the close proximity. Of course he could win easily if replicating the run, but he's a short enough price at 15/8.
Burrows should have a line on that Balletomane race at Kempton too, as he fielded newcomer Etisalat, who shaped very well in third.
Back to today's selection Tashaaboh, who made a pleasing enough debut at Ripon. The ground was soft, and he weakened after showing some ability. Ripon isn't the easiest track for a horse's first run, and he should be more clued up today.
The trainer has sent out ten juvenile winners this term on the turf (although is 0/12 on the all-weather in 2017). However, we are backing the improvement here from first to second start - and at 13/2 on the Sportsbook, that's a decent price if the favourite fails to run to form.
