Bets Of The Day: Take Tizzard's veteran at a big price at Sandown

Alan Dudman returns for Sunday's action, and heads to a good-looking card at Sandown with two win bets at decent prices....

"As a 10-year-old, he is one of the younger ones, and this time last season he landed the Old Roan Chase beating Smad Place. He is down to a mark of 145 and is taking a drop in class."

Back Third Intention @ 12.011/1 in the 15:30 at Sandown

13:20 Sandown - Back Crystal Lad @ 12/1

Gary Moore at Sandown is usually a good avenue to go down, and we should see a bit more from his Crystal Lad over fences today.

His chase debut last month at Plumpton was hardly a triumph, but he's better than what he showed there. It was quite a rough race and he was impeded before weakening. So at least we have an excuse or two, and I am prepared to take a chance at 12/1 on the Sportsbook. He deserves another go.

After all, he was a useful hurdler last term and didn't run too badly at the track last March in a Grade 3 novice event.

Drying ground will be ideal, and the handicapper has reacted with a 4lb drop from Plumpton. He went well around Sandown in a couple of runs over hurdles last term, and he is probably more suited to a forceful ride.

He looks overpriced and can certainly win a race from his current mark over fences.

15:30 Sandown - Back Third Intention @ 10.09/1 or better

I do love these veterans' races, and the 15:30 is worth getting involved with here. Double Ross is the right favourite as he'll be fitter for his seasonal reappearance. However, he's not exactly been missed in the market and was backed on the Sportsbook last night into 9/4.

The two outsiders here make a bit of appeal in Third Intention and Vino Griego.

The former gets the nod at around 12.011/1, as the race could be run to suit. There is plenty of pace on here, with the likes of Double Ross, Loose Chips, Creevytennant and Pete The Feat all pegged as potential front-runners.

Whilst I am never quite sure what Third Intention's best trip is, he's best with a race falling apart and coming through horses.

As a 10-year-old, he is one of the younger ones, and this time last season he landed the Old Roan Chase beating Smad Place. He is down to a mark of 145 and is taking a drop in class.
