Alan Dudman kicks off the new week at Plumpton, and has identified a pair of strong-staying types at decent prices for Monday's action at the Sussex venue...

"The eight-year-old is a better horse than his 0-11 record over fences suggests, but he's rated accordingly and has dropped down to a nice mark of 107. After a poor effort at Exeter last time, he has been lowered another 2lb. "

13:40 Plumpton - Back Act Now @ 13/2

This 0-125 Mares' Handicap Hurdle contains plenty of in-form types, and whilst Jester Jet initially took my eye - the price didn't excite me as much as Act Now. She can backed at 13/2, so the latter gets the nod in terms of the selection.

Jester Jet has travelled well before, but Act Now is the guaranteed stayer, and she'll be plugging on to utilise her stamina. It's the stamina that could win this, and she could be the type to place a back at a higher price in-running.

She possesses course and distance winning form in soft ground last term, and she also scored on her final start at Hereford in a 0-120. She won well on that occasion and achieved a personal best to mark herself as a fairly progressive type.

Her latest run at Ffos Las was a decent race in November, and one that was stronger than today's. It smacked of a run that was very much needed, and we should see her in a better light this afternoon.

Good to soft conditions could be ideal, and she is up to winning in this sort of company for her trainer Anthony Honeyball.

Another horse who doesn't lack for stamina is Paul Henderson's Talk Of The South - and he's most certainly worth a punt in the 3m2f Handicap Chase.

The eight-year-old is a better horse than his 0-11 record over fences suggests, but he's rated accordingly and has dropped down to a nice mark of 107. After a poor effort at Exeter last time, he has been lowered another 2lb.

Talk Of The South attracted some money in last term's Devon National at Exeter, and he ran quite well in that, a contest clearly much stronger than today's. He also finished second at Warwick in a much better race from a rating of 115 last March.

He tends to plug on in dour fashion quite late, and I can see why connections have pitched him over 3m5f and 3m7f.

With winning form at the track, he's not especially ground dependant with form on good to soft, soft and heavy. His jockey Nick Scholfield has ridden him a few times so will know how he operates, and he could outstay this lot with his stamina.
