It's the turn of Alan Dudman for the next seven days in the tipping chair, and he starts with two bets for Friday's card at Catterick...

"The handicapper has lowered him 5lb following his latest run, so he has a big chance from 96. He likes slow ground, can be tough when he is on a good day and stays 2m4f very well."

Back Perseid @ 4/1 in the 16:35 at Catterick

14:55 Catterick - Back Planet Nine @ 5/1

Whilst the field sizes are not huge at Catterick for Friday's card, hopefully we can eke out a couple of winning bets - starting with Rose Dobbin's Planet Nine in the staying handicap hurdle.

This will be his first attempt at a distance over 3m-plus, and he should improve for that following a race at Carlisle earlier in the season. He ran in quite a strong-looking novice on that occasion and became a little outpaced at the end.

He was keen in that Carlisle contest too, so it was pleasing to see him shape much better at Catterick recently with the first-time hood.

Planet Nine cost £135,000 after a bumper win at Thurles, and he looked more than useful in that sphere with a tidy victory at Perth. However, he hasn't replicated his bumper form over hurdles, but that gives a fairly nice mark to work with on 115 for his handicap debut.

Priced up at 5/1 on the Sportsbook, he can get back on track with a better run, and he'll have no problem with the soft conditions.

16:35 Catterick - Back Perseid @ 4/1

The case to back Perseid in this 2m4f Conditional Jockeys' race is fairly straightforward, as the eight-year-old has been given big chance by the assessor from a fairly lowly mark - and this race is not the strongest.

Hot favourite Derrynane was 4/7 last night on the Sportsbook, and he is the form pick following a ten length victory at the track last time. But that was a poor race, and he'd had a few chances beforehand too. He may well win of course, but I wouldn't want to take him at such short odds.

Backing Persied makes more appeal at 4/1, and it must be remembered he competed in a stronger grade last time out at Market Rasen. He seemed to run a bit of a sulky race there, but this represents a drop in grade.

The handicapper has lowered him 5lb following his latest run, so he has a big chance from 96. He likes slow ground, can be tough when he is on a good day and stays 2m4f very well.
