Bets Of The Day: Pipes Of Peace can be number one at York

It's the second day of the Dante Festival and Alan has provided two bets for York

Fresh from his third winner of the week, Alan Dudman signs off from his latest stint in the tipping chair with two bets for York on Thursday...

"He fared best of those to come from off the pace, and he met a bit of trouble in the closing stages. He shaped as if the extra yardage will be within his range."

Listed honours can go to No Nonsense

16:05 York - Back No Nonsense @ 11/2 Sportsbook price

The first bet of the day is David Elsworth's No Nonsense, and the angle with him dropping down to the minimum throws up an element of intrigue.

The plan to make him a 7f horse didn't work out as he didn't stay in the Greenham, but reverting back down to 6f was better last time - as he finished second to Calyx in the Commonwealth Cup Trial. He was well beaten there and there may have been a case of him picking up the pieces, but I suspect quite a few horses will be well beaten by Calyx this term.

There's still a bit of rawness about him, and that certainly was the case when he won at Kempton during the winter. The front-runner set a good pace over 6f on that occasion, so a nice flat track with plenty of speed could really suit.

He's a real strapping son of Acclamation with a big, powerful physique. Given that he has proved to be smart on the all-weather, I am looking forward to seeing him on quick ground on the Knavesmire.

Peace has been knocking on the door in handicaps

17:05 York - Back Pipes Of Peace @ 6/1 Sportsbook price

Seamus Durack's Pipes Of Peace has two very solid handicap runs to his name this season, and he's a big player in this stayers' event over 2m. He was also trimmed yesterday from 8/1 into 6/1 on the Sportsbook.

He steps up in distance on Thursday, and the new trip looks as though it should bring about some improvement following his effort in the Queen's Cup last time at Musselburgh. He fared best of those to come from off the pace, and he met a bit of trouble in the closing stages. He shaped as if the extra yardage will be within his range.

That effort goes alongside his second in the Rosebery at Kempton - although he was no match at all that day for the very impressive Forbidden Planet.
