There maybe some quality action over the jumps at Sandown on Saturday, but Alan Dudman is concentrating on Wolverhampton's card and has two bets for the afternoon....
"Again, he was held up in that race but he has been used with more forward tactics in the past; which could be a factor from his draw in 5 under Tom Marquand."
Lincoln Trial honours can go to progressive Pinnata
14:05 Wolverhampton - Back Pinnata @ [8.0]
This looks a strong Lincoln Trial and there's plenty of decent racing at Wolverhampton to keep Flat fans happy. I like Victory Bond, but I am not so sure about the 1m trip with him, but there are no concerns with Pinnata on that front and he's a really exciting horse.
The 5yo has been one of the most progressive horses this winter - shooting up 22lb since November. He has produced a couple of sparkling victories already; including a five length success at Kempton and a nice performance at Newcastle. The win in the north east was a fair time and he beat the 107-rated Straight Royal, so that immediately marked him down as one to follow.
He couldn't win at Newcastle over 7f last time, but he got a decent ride and there were no excuses. Newcastle can be a tricky track to work out results from. He has a turn of foot and the switch to Wolverhampton could suit him - as could the step back to 1m.
A decent draw with Jamie Spencer booked makes him my play in the race at around [8.0]
Raucous ready to rock at Dunstall Park
16:25 Wolverhampton - Back Raucous @ [9.2]
The Robert Cowell-trained Raucous deserves to have won more races than his current tally of 4-28 in his career. He's a smart horse on his day and used to be rated even higher a couple of years' ago when housed with William Haggas, and I think he's a decent bet here.
He didn't quite have the run of the race over course and distance last time behind Merhoob. He finished third and stayed on quite well, but those in front of him got first run. That was a good race and a fair one on the clock too for the night.
Raucous also shaped well after a break at Lingfield previously. Again, he was held up in that race but he has been used with more forward tactics in the past; which could be a factor from his draw in 5 under Tom Marquand.
The usual headgear remains and he looked very good winning in a 0-105 at Goodwood in the summer. He certainly travelled well in that and you need speed for that track, which will serve him well here.
