Bets Of The Day: Sir Lancelott the pick for a return to form

Alan is hoping for victories for Glendevon and Sir Lancelott on Wednesday

A case of seconditis struck again for Alan yesterday with Glasgon at Southwell. Sticking with the all-weather, our man has two bets for Wolverhampton and Newcastle on Wednesday...

"It's not a particularly strong race, but Adrian Nicholls' runner is quite a solid horse at this level."

Back Sir Lancelott @ 6.05/1 in the 17:45 at Newcastle

Hughes can take the feature with talented Glendevon

16:30 Wolverhampton - Back Glendevon @ 4.03/1

It's off to Wolves we go for a bet in the feature race on Wednesday. This is a cracking 0-105 handicap, and the presence of a John Gosden 3yo in Graffiti Master means he'll be a fairly popular runner.

However, I'll give him a miss and focus on another of the 3yo crop in the race, and that's Richard Hughes' Glendevon. He's a son of Scat Daddy, so there's every chance the all-weather might be his thing.

He's highly talented with plenty of natural ability, but he can be a bit tricky. He carries his head high, and he can also race keenly. Whether he puts it all in a finish I remain open-minded about, but it's certainly an option to lay him at a short price in the run.

Rated 102, I think he could be the type to be even better in a good race. Jockey Shane Kelly is ideal for these sort of horses, and he is my bet for this.

Arise Sir Lancelott for Wednesday

17:45 Newcastle - Back Sir Lancelott @ 6.05/1

Still on the all-weather theme; I am backing Sir Lancelott in this 7f handicap.

It's not a particularly strong race, but Adrian Nicholls' runner is quite a solid horse at this level. He ran okay over the summer on the turf, but he's a much better horse on the artificial surfaces, in particular the Tapeta (at Wolverhampton).

He returned to the track after a break recently with a pleasing effort at Kempton. That isn't his course but he ran well, and he is worth a go off his rating of 46 judged on some early 2018 efforts in better races than today's.

Sir Lancelott stays well (and has form over further), and that is ideal for Newcastle. This race is also a PROMO race on the Sportsbook.
