Bets Of The Day: Alnashama to scoop prize at Kempton

It could be a decent Wednesday for the blue silks of Hamdan Al Maktoum
It could be a decent Wednesday for the blue silks of Hamdan Al Maktoum

With his third winner of the week yesterday courtesy of Favourite Royal, Alan Dudman looks to keep his stint in profit with two more bets for Wednesday...

"Alnashama raced over 7f recently at Doncaster, and whilst it's a long straight there, they do tend to race quite early. He'll be much happier over an extra furlong this season as he really does stay a mile well."

15:50 Nottingham - Algaith to get his year going

This 1m handicap looks a strong race, and the Owen Burrows-trained Algaith boasts some fairly handy form to be a big player here from a mark of 105.

Even with that rating, there's a sense of frustration that we still haven't seen the best of him. As a five-year-old, he hasn't stood a lot of racing and he was only seen twice in 2016 following a gelding operation. One was in the Hunt Cup and he was well down the field, the other was an excellent effort in the Pomfret at Pontefract - behind the classy Convey.

Hopefully we will see a bit more of him in 2017, and he made a highly-encouraging seasonal reappearance recently at Ascot in a Listed affair. He was entitled to need the run, but he wasn't too far behind a nice winner in the shape of Tabarrak.

Algaith is best at a mile on decent ground, so he'll get that here. He can also make the running.

20:20 Kempton - Like mother like son for Alnashama

A couple of years ago I was maybe a touch unkind about Alnashama thinking he wasn't the quickest. Perhaps I was guilty of expecting him to be just as dazzling as his brilliant mother Ghanaati. Actually no perhaps about it, I was.

And while the immediate impact from him as a juvenile and three-year-old wasn't particularly impressive, he excelled in 2016 as an older horse with three wins at Salisbury, Newmarket and Leicester - rising in the weights to a mark of 82.

He showed with his recent comeback run for the season that there could still be more to come. Maybe these Ghanaati offspring are going to be late maturing types?

Alnashama raced over 7f recently at Doncaster, and whilst it's a long straight there, they do tend to race quite early. He'll be much happier over an extra furlong this season as he really does stay a mile well.

His mother won at Kempton, so he is well worth another go here.
