It's now five winners for the week for Alan Dudman following the 5.805/1 victory of Next Stage yesterday. His other selection was second and traded at 1.051/20 in defeat. Our man goes again at Newmarket on Wednesday...
"The one thing I like in class horses is a turn of foot, and she has a great change of pace. She showed that hallmark in two victories last term for John Oxx - winning on debut at Tipperary, and then going on to land the Group 3 Flame Of Tara"
13:50 Newmarket - Channon sprinter to capitalise on dropping mark
This sprint handicap looks wide open and anything can win it - so step forward the horse named after Sir Roger Moore's finest acting performance - Moonraker (although his double act with Singen Smithe in A View To A Kill comes a close second). The selection's current form reads 070, which almost works.
So Moonraker it is, who surely has a big chance from his lowest-ever handicap mark of 91 - and he is well treated in a weaker race than he normally contests.
This five-year-old ran three times out in Meydan, but all were over 5f, and he's never really been quick enough to compete at that trip. I am much happier over today's 6f at a track that should also suit. Meydan wasn't a disaster, and he ran with credit, but he is nowhere near as fast as Medicean Man and Ertijaal - two horses he ran up against out in Dubai.
2016 wasn't a great year for Moonraker, but he was in some decent races, and he did finish second at Newcastle in a 0-100 - and that was his standout run from last year.
He hasn't been seen since February, but has won fresh on two occasions. With form on good or fast ground, he could be a massive price to go well - especially as the assessor has taken a swipe at him to lower his rating 4lb.
15:35 Newmarket - Classic candidate to strut her stuff at HQ
We'll learn a lot more about the Classic chances for Sea Of Grace on Wednesday, and she lines up in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn.
She is currently 16/1 for the 1,000 Guineas on the Sportsbook, and we could see some action regarding that market if she puts up an impressive winning display here. I hope so, and I am going to take the 5.04/1 on offer.
The one thing I like in class horses is a turn of foot, and she has a great change of pace. She showed that hallmark in two victories last term for John Oxx - winning on debut at Tipperary, and then going on to land the Group 3 Flame Of Tara with her trademark instant burst of acceleration.
It is sad she is no longer with Oxx - who has struggled with numbers in recent seasons, but she has joined one of the top Newmarket yards in William Haggas - and she could be up to Group 1 class. For that reason, she must be backed on Wednesday.
Hopefully the ground won't be too quick for her.
