Alan Dudman struck with his first winner of the week as Macho Mac returned a Betfair SP of 8.42 at Southwell yesterday. He's hoping for success with two bets at Kempton on Wednesday evening....
"Returning to Kempton is a plus, as she landed her maiden over course and distance with a bit of style. Her trainer James Fanshawe might be able to pick up a couple of winter races with her in the next month or two as she travels better than her mark."
18:10 Kempton - Franco to perform at his favourite track
Peter Hedger's Franco's Secret is a horse who needs a proper gallop over 1m, and he might just get what he craves in this 0-85 handicap. He is a bet in the place market for me.
The five-year-old is usually delivered late, so the key horses here could be Niceofyoutotellme, Byres Road, and Russian Reward - who have all forced the pace in their career. The former blasted off over 10f when last seen, so I'm hoping there is plenty of speed here.
There are no secrets (apologies!) with the selection, as he is a solid performer over course and distance. He could also be well-treated from his current rating of 77 - as he finished second behind Bastille Day in a London Mile Series Qualifier earlier this year - and that came from a 5lb higher mark in the same grade.
Franco's Secret was knocking on the door in a series of four runs at Kempton in the summer, and he can go close here for jockey Tom Marquand.
18:40 Kempton - Fanshawe to crack fillies' race
I thought Tegara might have been a bit shorter than the 3.4012/5 available on Tuesday evening for this fillies' handicap, and she makes a bit of appeal from her rating of 71.
She has been backed in three of her four starts to date, and was turned over at 11/10 at Newcastle last time (her first run in a handicap). The filly travelled fairly sweetly in a steadily run race, but she didn't find much in terms of a finishing kick. I'm prepared to waive it because some of the finishes at Gosforth Park can be hard to read.
Incidentally, she traded at 1.364/11 in-play for that run and lost.
Returning to Kempton is a plus, as she landed her maiden over course and distance with a bit of style. Her trainer James Fanshawe might be able to pick up a couple of winter races with her in the next month or two as she travels better than her mark. The assessor has given her a chance by dropping her down 3lb.
