Alan Dudman was out of luck with his two selections at Lingfield yesterday, but he switches to the jumps action on New Year's Day and is off to Cheltenham.....
"Ellmarie Holden's chaser won a nice prize at Gowran Park last term with a decent jumping display and he acts well in soft and heavy conditions."
Upturn in Pauling fortunes to continue with Secretus
12:50 Cheltenham - Back Equus Secretus @ 8.615/2
Our two bets bring in the New Year at headquarters, and hopefully we can start 2020 with at least one on the scoresheet.
It's no secret that trainer Ben Pauling's horses are in much better nick following a slow start to the campaign, and I am hoping he can add to his current tally of four winners in the last fortnight with Equus Secretus.
The 8yo is lightly-raced and fared well on his comeback run for this season last time out at Ludlow. He made a couple of mistakes, and the error four from home was one too many. That effectively put paid to his chances, but for a base to build on, it was a good effort and he really ought to improve for that outing.
He can be a bit hit-and-miss, and one of his poor efforts was in the Topham last term. However, he was rated 139 in his hurdling days, so he's well treated over fences from a 4lb lower mark.
Soft conditions appear to be fine, he looks worth a go at this longer trip at Prestbury Park.
Patriot poised to be a player under O'Connor
14:00 Cheltenham - Back Ex Patriot @ 9.28/1
Whilst the New England Patriots fluffed their lines recently against the Miami Dolphins (and click here to read the latest on the NFL betting), maybe Ex Patriot will have no such problems in the feature 14:00 at Cheltenham.
This 7yo has always had the look of a horse who could fly fairly high, and he is more than capable of playing a major part here at a decent price of nearly 10.09/1.
His last two runs have been in graded company in Ireland, and whilst he was no match for Battleoverdoyen last time in the Florida Pearl, it was a decent effort considering the trip probably stretched him in terms of his optimum distance. Especially taking on that calibre of horse.
Ellmarie Holden's chaser won a nice prize at Gowran Park last term with a decent jumping display and he acts well in soft and heavy conditions.
With Doc O'Connor on board, the return to 2m5f is another plus. Both are EXTRA PLACE SPECIAL RACES on the Sportsbook.
