Alan Thompson heads to the summer jumpers at Towcester and the flat at Leicester for Monday's installment of Bets of the Day...
"Kayla is an unexposed type who has finished in the first two places in each of her last five starts, including winning a bumper here last spring."
Stuart Edmunds runs his ultra consistent mare Kayla over two mile seven furlongs today and she will relish this quicker ground. Kayla is an unexposed type who has finished in the first two places in each of her last five starts, including winning a bumper here last spring. After a seven month break she opened this season here over course and distance and was just touched off by half-a-length by Very Extravagant, who showed how good she is by going in again on Sunday by four and a half lengths.
It's a competitive race with all six runners having chances but Kayla's biggest threat appears to be Royal Battallion who is second in the market from the Gary Moore yard. However, while his Worcester form was also franked by the winner (Perspicace) going in again on Sunday, he has never run beyond two-and-a-half miles, with his only win to date coming over two miles and two furlongs. I would rather be with Kayla who will get every bit of this trip.
There are potentially some very interesting fillies in this Leicester handicap, including Next Life from Godolphin, and the Willie Haggis runner Dutch Destiny, were both lightly raced winners as juveniles and running for the first time today as three-year-olds.
My preference today though is for Charlie Hills Oasis Dream filly Jadaayil who has been given a fair mark of 84 for her handicap debut, after winning her maiden at the Craven meeting last month. I think the run in the Craven meeting will give Jadaayil the slight edge she will need to win this. This is definitely a race to watch - expect winners in the future to come from this handicap.
