A second and third meant a blank afternoon for Alan Dudman yesterday. Our man heads to Wolverhampton and believes Favourite Royal holds decent claims to win on Tuesday night...
"The selection's best run has come at this track and she looks fairly compact and ideal for racing around here. She has already displayed a finishing kick on the surface and she could improve over today's distance."
Selections were tough to find for Tuesday's racing and a couple I like are too short in the market - in particular Brother Tiger in Lingfield's 16:10. I think he'll win, but there isn't much juice there in his odds.
Natajack is a different ball game however and I want to include him for this maiden as 14/1 looks big.
The price reflects a poor run last month - and he didn't find an awful lot behind the very smart Benbatl at Doncaster. He has been gelded since that run and has a chance to make amends. The Donny outing was also a first for the Richard Fahey yard having been purchased for 40,000 guineas from Tom Dascombe.
I am most interested in his debut effort at Newbury last term. He finished second behind a potentially smart sort in Musawaat - who has subsequently been placed in a handicap from a mark of 84. The fourth and the fifth have both won since.
This does look a strong maiden with plenty of the top yards represented. But I like to put Fahey in that bracket too, and 14/1 is just too big considering the promise of his debut.
19:40 Wolverhampton - Johnson Houghton to continue fine month
We should be able to get a decent price on Eve Johnson Houghton's Favourite Royal here, especially as Sir Michael Stoute's Ghadaayer was backed into 5/4 overnight.
Maybe she has gone under the radar, but Favourite Royal motored home last month on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton. The race was run at an even pace, and she picked up to finish second. The three others around her had all come from more prominent positions, so I would take a positive view of that race over 7f. She is stepping up in trip today which is a massive plus.
Her latest run came at Leicester and she wasn't ideally positioned in that race. She hung and was keen there too, so we can put a line through that.
Johnson Houghton's yard are going well and enjoyed three winners yesterday, taking her tally to nine for the month and seven seconds.
The selection's best run has come at this track and she looks fairly compact and ideal for racing around here. She has already displayed a finishing kick on the surface and she could improve over today's distance.
