Gordon has a nice prospect with Baddesley
15:20 Wincanton - Back Baddesley Knight @ BSP
One embryonic steeplechaser I am looking forward to seeing (and backing) on Thursday is the Chris Gordon-trained Baddesley Knight. He's quite an exciting prospect.
With just four runs over hurdles, Gordon has wasted little time in sending him over fences and he performed well in a good little race at Market Rasen last time on his chase debut. He was seven lengths behind Rouge Vif, but he should come on for that as it was his first run for 248 days.
Rouge Vif is a handy horse too, he had graded form over hurdles.
Baddesley Knight was a useful hurdler and bumper horse himself, so from a mark of 131 over fences, there's every chance he can improve on that.
He made a couple of errors late on at Rasen, and he's by one of my favourite jumps' stallions in Doyen.
Red to make the right impression with return to the all-weather
16:05 Newcastle - Back Red Impression @ BSP
There's a decent card at Newcastle on Thursday and one horse that potentially could be a cut above the grade she is running in might be Red Impression.
She lines up in a 0-95, but she looks to have a bit of quality judged on her first two starts. Indeed, she bolted up in one on the all-weather by six lengths as a juvenile, and had a subsequent 100-rated horse back in fourth that day.
It hasn't quite gone according to plan following an unlucky effort in Listed company at Chelmsford, and she has been turned over on the turf in two runs since.
She simply could be a much better all-weather performer, and this represents a good opportunity for her to get back on track as she possesses a fine turn of foot.
The tongue-tie is on for Thursday and this will be her second start since a wind op following a small break, but she could be well handicapped from 93.
