Bets Of The Day: Fahey's filly a big price to go well at Pontefract

Richard Fahey
Can trainer Richard Fahey hit the target at Pontefract on Thursday?

"Her victory at Haydock with the way she came off the bridle suggested a stiff track like Ponty might suit her."

Back Zip Along @ 12.011/1 in the 15:40 at Pontefract

A good day for Alan Dudman yesterday with both of his selections winning. He signs off from his latest stint in the chair with two more bets for Thursday...

Margarson's Guest seeking another victory at his favourite venue

15:20 Yarmouth - Back Protected Guest @ 6.05/1

My best bet of the day runs at Yarmouth on Thursday, and I am sticking with the track specialist Protected Guest to win again.

He was a very progressive 3yo who won some nice races at the North Denes track last year, but his trainer George Margarson mentioned that he was a "horse for next season". Indeed, he has won at Yarmouth already this term from a mark of 89, and he looked well ahead of that rating with the way he finished.

It's a new trip for him today as he steps up to 1m6f, but I'll think he will stay well. He scored over 1m4f at the venue in 2018 and he wasn't stopping at the end.

Quick ground suits and with a record of four wins here, I am hoping he can make it five with a good performance off top weight.

Keep on eye on Fahey's Zip to improve on seasonal return

15:40 Pontefract - Back Zip Along @ 12.011/1

The 15:40 at Pontefract is worth nearly 19k to the winner, and I am backing Richard Fahey's Zip Along to claim the prize.

She was a progressive horse last season winning three times at Doncaster, Nottingham and Haydock, and she ended up on a rating of 91.

It was a belated comeback for the season earlier this month at Thirsk. That was over 7f, which is probably too far in terms of distance, but it was her first run for a year and she needed it.

Quick ground and a drop in distances are plus points, and she has also been lowered 2lb back down to 88.

Her victory at Haydock with the way she came off the bridle suggested a stiff track like Ponty might suit her.
