Eula has more to give if the ground stays quick
16:20 Leicester - Back Eula Varder @ 6/1 Sportsbook price
Rain is forecast for Thursday, but I am hoping the showers (if they decide to arrive) will not impact on the quick going at Leicester, because Henry Candy's Eula Varder is the selection.
It's a trappy little fillies' handicap, but I am hoping the presence of runners from the John Gosden and Roger Varian stables will make the price on Eula Varder quite appealing. She was 6/1 to back last night on the Sportsbook.
She hasn't exactly stood much racing in her career to date as a 5yo, but she returned to action last time out at Chepstow in a 0-80. It was her first run for 365 days and it looked as though the outing was needed as she didn't really go through with her effort.
The mare won at Salisbury last term and travelled nicely to seal victory in smooth fashion and could still be ahead of her mark of 75.
Take a Flyer with Bastiman's French
16:50 Hamilton - Back French Flyer each-way @ 33/1 Sportsbook price
This is a poor race as plenty of horses in this field have lost their way completely. There are some marks that have been in freefall.
The claims of Rosy Ryan are obvious following a runner-up effort at Beverley last time in a slightly better race, but she hasn't won for two years, so do we really want to back her as the favourite?
I am prepared to take a massive punt on the Rebecca Bastiman-trained French Flyer. He was priced at 33/1 last night on the Sportsbook.
He started out life in 2018 from a mark of 74 with Michael Dods. He is now rated 48.
His three runs for Bastiman have been low-key, but he does stay further than today's 1m. He looks an out-and-out galloper who appears to have no change of gear, but with his extra stamina, it will be interesting to see what sort of tactics they employ. I would love to see him stretch the field and make the running.
Either way, he's from a very low mark in a winnable contest. The stiff finish should also suit him.
