Bets Of The Day: Barney looks the one for Chepstow victory

Alan Dudman heads to Chepstow in search of a winner on Sunday, and he has two plays to back for an excellent card...

"The 8yo finished second in the 2017 Pertemps from 143 over hurdles, so his mark today is most attractive. I'm hoping he'll have a big season, and this could be the first of a few decent pots."

Back Barney Dwan @ 5.04/1 in the 17:10 at Chepstow

Expect a smooth display from Lacey's hurdler

16:35 Chepstow - Back Vado Forte @ 9.08/1

We head to Chepstow for one of the feature races of the day, and an excellent 0-150 handicap hurdle with a decent field.

Trainer Tom Lacey has a big contender in the shape of Vado Forte, and he certainly will appreciate the forecast rain as he has plenty of winning form in soft and heavy conditions.

He really took off with the addition of the hood last season (he was previously described as mentally fractious). Running in the mud seemed to be a big plus too last term, as he really tanked through a couple of his races at Taunton and Plumpton.

Vado Forte landed the Sussex Champion Hurdle and cruised through that in the style of a horse still ahead of his mark. He steps up in grade and runs from 129, but I have a feeling he's still better than that.

He'll travel well and will represent a trade from 10.09/1.

Barney can take advantage of attractive mark

17:10 Chepstow - Back Barney Dwan @ 5.04/1

Fergal O'Brien's Barney Dwan has always had a look of a horse who has a big handicap in him, and he certainly is well handicapped to go well from 143.

He was last seen falling at Ayr's big meeting in April - a novice contest in which he fell at the 12th, but he had some really classy form last term over fences, which included the Future Champions victory at Musselburgh. He jumped well in that.

There may be a feeling he's a better horse on decent ground, which is a slight worry. However, he had winning form in soft and heavy conditions as a novice hurdler so hopefully he can get away with it.

The 8yo finished second in the 2017 Pertemps from 143 over hurdles, so his mark today is most attractive. I'm hoping he'll have a big season, and this could be the first of a few decent pots.
