Bets Of The Day: Consistent Grove ready for victory?

A decent crowd can be expected for Sunday's fixture at Uttoxeter

Alan goes in search of his first winner of the week with a couple of bets on Sunday at Uttoxeter - and is relying on Grove Silver to break his duck...

"Last time he shaped like he needed the run at Musselburgh - and he was turned over at 8/11 in a three runner race. It was his first outing since the summer and he was off the bridle fairly early."

14:40 Uttoxeter - Slog to suit Smith's veteran

The testing conditions on Sunday at Uttoxeter bodes well for the chances of Sue Smith's Cloudy Too - who reverts back to hurdles in a small field, and is seriously well treated.

He's another Smith runner who was in need of his reappearance at Bangor - that was over fences, and he was a 20/1 shot finishing down the field.

At his peak over fences he was rated at 157, so from 122 today over the smaller obstacles he is the bet. Last season he bolted up in Haydock's Peter Marsh Chase by 15 lengths, so he hasn't lost all of his talent despite entering the veteran stage of his career.

Four of his rivals will be racing for the first time this season, and in deep ground (which Cloudy Too loves), the others might not be as fit as the selection.

15:15 Uttoxeter - Silver to take bronze for first success

Grove Silver is very consistent, but consistency has come out a price; as he has yet to win over fences in 11 attempts.

This 2m6f handicap chase should be ideal for him with the softer conditions, and he proved his staying potential last season with fine efforts in the Norfolk National at Fakenham, and a second at Warwick over 3m5f - and today's contest in the Midlands looks slightly weaker.

Last time he shaped like he needed the run at Musselburgh - and he was turned over at 8/11 in a three runner race. It was his first outing since the summer and he was off the bridle fairly early.

From a mark of 114 he hasn't got masses in hand, but he was a 127-rated novice hurdler.

Trained by Jennie Candlish, he is usually ridden from the front, and from an in-running perspective, he has been beaten at 1.01 in his career.
