Williams' stayer can come to the fore in Sussex feature
14:40 Fontwell - Back One Of Us @ BSP
The two Venetia Williams' runners both performed well without winning yesterday, and I thought Achille ran a cracker from the front. We stick with the Williams theme again today with Nick and Evan the latest trainers to be backed.
The feature race at Fontwell on Sunday is the Southern National, and whilst I respect the chances of last year's winner Shanroe Santos, my preference is for One Of Us at a slightly bigger price.
The Nick Williams-trained 7yo has improved for stepping up in trip, and landed the Devon Stayers at Exeter last term. He was outpaced in that, but he rallied to win well. That marked him down as a horse with a fair bit of staying power.
His return for the season came at Wincanton and that would have blown away the cobwebs.
Neuf primed for a big run after Chepstow outing
15:00 Cheltenham - Back Quoi De Neuf @ BSP
Off to Prestbury Park for the Greatwood, and my idea of the winner is Quoi De Neuf for Evan Williams.
The 5yo caught the eye at Chepstow last time when finishing second behind Speed Company.
That was his first run of the campaign and went well for a large part. He may have been too close to the pace as he was picked off down the long run-in. But he'll improve for that and looks well treated from 129.
He does stay 2m4f, and with a low weight can be a player.
He travelled nicely too at Chepstow, so there is scope to trade using a back-to-lay from his price of around 10.09/1.
